Once again, many excellent replies. Thanks to:
        Brian Benson <brian_at_darwin.lsmsa.edu>
        "Allen, Mark R (PBD)" <Mark.Allen_at_pbdir.com>
                and
        Brian O'Neill, who replied with:
Messenger Express 3.5 is available on more than NT and Solaris -
including Digital UNIX. It is, in reality, Perl scripts.

It is designed to work with Messenger Server and Directory Server, but I
think people have managed to get it to work with any IMAP server, if you
can deal with the error messages.

Also thanks go to Ed Murphy <Ed.Murphy_at_ussurg.com> who recommended
looking at: http://www.ihub.com/infinite/prods/webmail/webmail.html which
is another program offering the same functionality.

Thanks to all who wrote and to any replies I've yet to receive!
