The man page for chown states:
[Digital] Only a user with superuser authority can use the chown command.
I have a number of scripts which use chown and chmod to give files away for
other processes to pick up, which were developed on other systems, but now
need to be migrated to DU.
Each process may run as a different user, and this handshaking was the best
way to implement security between the processes. This process isolated the
files for a given process until they were copied to another area and the
ownership given away.
We have considered putting a suid on the chown and chgrp commands so that
any user can run them, but this means that a users could chown a file that
they don't have access to read, to their own user and then have full access
to the file.
Does anyone know of a way to configure the chown command on DU to be safe
for general users to use.
We are using DU4.0D.
