Dear managers,
I would have thought someone else might have had this same problem, but my
search of the archive turned up nothing. While running Digital Unix 3.2D-1,
the graphics output on my AlphaServer 2100 was properly recognized as an
ATI Mach64, as show by the following snippet from /var/adm/messages:
Mar 10 21:04:26 cerere vmunix: vga0 at eisa0
Mar 10 21:04:26 cerere vmunix: 1024x768 (ATI64 )
Mar 10 21:04:26 cerere vmunix: vga0: ATI Mach64-GX Rev. 3
After doing a clean install of 4.0D, the video is no longer properly
recognized and the default driver is used, resulting in greatly reduced
resolution:
May 18 21:07:30 cerere vmunix: vga0 at eisa0
May 18 21:07:30 cerere vmunix: 640x480 VGA, 16 colors
May 18 21:07:30 cerere vmunix: vga0: generic VGA driver
the entry in the kernel configuration file is as follows:
controller vga0 at eisa0 slot 2 vector vgaintr
Somehow the driver for the video board was not properly installed. I swear
I've read the Release Notes and Installation Guide, but found no answers
there. What can I do to get the driver for my video controller installed?
as always, thanks for the help!
