How to masquerade my local network.

Hi all,
I'd like to masquerade my local network with just one server upon which
all needed internet applications (mail, web, ftp etc...) are running (and
shall be trasparently used by local users).
I think to install just one more network interface that will be connected to
the local net. The other interface will be connected to the Internet routers.
I plan to use private net ip (192.168.x.x) on the local net.
Now these are the questions:
        1) Which kind of Ethernet cards does the kernel (3.2d-1) support ???
        2) Must I install a firewall (such as fwtk) ???
        3) May I just use gated in conjuction with a proxy server ???

Any comments will be appreciated.

Greetings,
