Gentlemen:
We are having a rather puzzling problem with ip addresses with our
current firewall. Last Friday afternoon all of our clients on one
segment suddenly were given a Netscape 403 proxy error. The rest of
the campus works just fine. I have done the following detective work:
1. I have verified client ip configurations. All workstations in that
segment are getting ip correct addresses from our UNIX server (DU
3.2c). These are being provided by the JOIN program.
2. I logged on to our UNIX server and did nslookup and verified that
our dns databases were working with both regular and reverse lookups.
So the hosts.db and hosts-xxx.rev are working.
3. We are currently running an old three box UNIX firewall. I went to
the GATEKEEPER and checked the httpd.conf file and made sure that all
the addresses were correct and that all syntax in that file was
correct. I then rebooted the Firewall and found that the problem
still exists.
It would seem that for some unknown reason the firewall has decided
not to recognize and allow access to this particular segment of our
system. I am at a loss as to where to look for the answer. Any
suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
