Bad header in mail messages on Friday 21st June

From: managers account <managers_at_mannet.mcb.net>
Date: Wed, 24 Jun 1998 10:19:07 +0100 (BST)

Several of our mailboxes had the following line in them which stopped
receipt of all mail to that box no matter what client was used.

 From daemon Fri Jun 19 01:33:16 19988

The spurious date field stopped the logic from reading the box or
accepting any more mail into it. This included this box
managers_at_mcb.net so we have had no mail from the list as presumably it
would have bounced back to everybody. We apologise for this but ask to be
reinstated.

Did anybosy else suffer this problemm in which case it was an attack, or
is there a potential bug in sendmail 8.8.6? There were no error messages
in mail.log that we could see and not all boxes were affected.
