/tmp partition size

Hi Gurus,

I would like to decrease /tmp partition size but did not succeed with
disklabel -e in multiuser and single user mode because /tmp is always
being used by the editor ed. How can I do this?

environment: DU 4.0b, DEC Alpha 3000-300X
