mounting and umounting CD's with DU 4.0

There are a few other Unix platforms where mounting and unmounting CD's
is automatic. Is there an automated CD mounting procedure I don't know
about for DU? -- and if not, >>> Why not???

Security? Proprietary processes? Lame DEC design?
