Help!

I was installing 3rd party memory in to our AlphaServer 1000 4/266.
I had installed a 64MB (=4 x 16 + error correcting sim) into memory bank
1. Memory bank 0 has the original 64MB.

As I had forgot to stop the machine from autobooting, the machine came
up as usual ("I could even see that it had now 128MB) but I wanted to do
the memory test as outlined in the manual.

So I went back to the boot prompt and did:
>>>show memory

which reported 128MB with banks 1 and 2 full. I then did
>>>memory

which started checking the memory. This hung and I hit the switch. I
then tried again. "show memory" reported 128MB and "memory" said "testing
the memory" and quickly returned me to the prompt.

When I tried:
>>>boot
I get the message

"warning: main memory zone is not free"

I have tried reinserting the new memory and removed the new memory but I
always get the same error messages.

Help!

TIA
