sendmail 8.9.1 on DU 3.2

Being attacked by spammers, we finally were forced to move to Berkeley
sendmail 8.9. We successfully compiled it on Solaris, and also mastered the
generation of sendmail.cf which should be done similarly on all systems, and
is already up and running on some of our Suns.

But now I am confronting a COMPILATION problem on Alpha (with Digital UNIX
V3.2D-1 (Rev. 41)).

The "Build" script fails with the following errors :

Configuration: os=OSF1, rel=V3.2, rbase=V3, rroot=V3.2, arch=alpha, sfx=
Making in obj.OSF1.V3.2.alpha
cc -Olimit 1000 -O -I. -DNDBM -DNIS -DMAP_REGEX -c daemon.c
/usr/lib/cmplrs/cc/cfe: Error: daemon.c, line 113: Syntax Error
        extern void reapchild __P((int));
        ----------------------^
/usr/lib/cmplrs/cc/cfe: Error: daemon.c, line 113: Syntax Error
        extern void reapchild __P((int));
        -------------------------------^
/usr/lib/cmplrs/cc/cfe: Error: daemon.c, line 114: Syntax Error
        extern int opendaemonsocket __P((bool));
        --------------------------------------^
/usr/lib/cmplrs/cc/cfe: Error: daemon.c, line 213: Syntax Error
                extern bool refuseconnections __P((int));
                ------------------------------^
/usr/lib/cmplrs/cc/cfe: Error: daemon.c, line 213: Syntax Error
                extern bool refuseconnections __P((int));

plus other syntax errors of the same sort on the same module.

We are compiling with the standard options in
sendmail-8.9.1/BuildTools/OS/OSF1
and the following sendmail-8.9.1/BuildTools/Site/site.config.m4

as recommended by documentation

define(`confLIBDIRS', ` -L/usr/shlib ')
define(`confNROFF', `nroff')
define(`confMANDOC',` ')

Could somebody enlighten me on which additional compilation flags can cure the
above problem, or direct me to a site with ready=to-go executable for DU3.2 ?

TIA
