Thanks a lot for the 35 responses I got to my
binary.errlog question...I was overwhelmed to put
it lightly....
to summarize I quote Bryan Lavelle from Digital..
The binary.errlog is the file where errors and boot time information are
stored.
To view the binary.errlog you can either use the uerf command or
DECevent ( dia commands ) if it is installed on your system.
uerf has limited reporting capabilities...while DECevent
is more comprehensive and must be installed as an associated
product.
If there are many errors being generated, then you may
have a hardware problem.....or as Bryan and our DEC support person
pointed out that the advfsd generates a whole ton of CAM SCSI
errors when disks are being shared among systems (as is the
case for our cluster).
You can get rid of these errors by either killing off the advfsd
or creating a file /var/opt/advfsd/disks.ignore including all the
base disk names. (rz0, rz1, etc.)
Thanks again everyone for the great response.
