I have a colleague who has a problem...
A new ESA10000 has been added to an existing system. Both zones are
full. Each zone has a pair of dual-redundant HSZ70's.
LSM is up and functioning correctly. The disks are created as 8 * 6
volume stripe sets on the hsz. Unit numbers have been added and the
device special files have been created. The devices are visible to
dunix.
We can disklabel each disk ok. We can newfs the 'a' partition (just to
ensure we can write to the disks). After the newfs, the disklabels are
reset to 'unused'.
Problem
-------
There is a weird problem. When we voldiskadd SOME of these new volumes,
it fails as follows:
Menu: LogicalStorageManager/Disk/AddDisk
Initialization of disk device rzb137 failed.
Error: voldisk: Device rzb137: define failed:
Disk write failure
Select a different disk device? [y,n,q,?] (default: n)
Whilst others add successfully. Avoiding 'voldiskadd' and using command
line, we get similar problems:
voldisksetup -i rzb136 nconfig=2 nlog=2 privlen=1024
voldisk: Device rzb136: define failed:
Disk write failure
voldisksetup -i -v rzb136 nconfig=2 nlog=2 privlen=1024
! voldisk -F -f init rzb136 nconfig=2 nlog=2 privlen=1024 type=sliced
puboffset=16
voldisk: Device rzb136: define failed:
Disk write failure
If we use a partition letter (eg rzb136c) it works just fine. We have
deleted all unit numbers, all stripe sets (in the new zones), deleted
all devices. Then... run config, to add all found devices, initialised
each disk, recreated the stripe sets and added the unit numbers again
just to ensure there are no 'weird' problems. In addition, each hsz in
the pair has been restarted. We get the same problem.
Any ideas?
Thanking you in advance.
Regards - Tony
