        Hi people,

I got 3 hints. In other words, I buy a new (and bigger) disk
and make a new DU install.

1) from Alan C. Davis :

If F77 is the dec product, it should be installed without the
-D switch. It will depend on other parts of the ccs compiler
suite and if not installed in the proper locations won't work.

2) from Sean O'Connel

One way to test if it's licensing or not would be to create
sym links to the default locations for the /usr/bin and also
(maybe more importantly) the /usr/ccs/lib/cmplrs stuff ...

3) from Dr. Thomas P. Blinn
That doesn't work. You misunderstood how the "-D" installation flags
works in setld. What you really need to do is make /usr/opt (and maybe
/var/opt if the Fortran product puts much stuff in /var) be a separate
file system. Typical layered product kits put the bulk of their files into
the /opt, /usr/opt, and /var/opt hierarchies (into product specific
sub-trees) and then put symbolic links to their inventory into the main
file system hierarchies.

The Fortran installation documentation SHOULD have told you this, and the
kitinstallation procedures should have prevented you installing the kit into
some arbitrary "alternate root" that doesn't have any of the right
infrastructure to support the kit installation.

What you were missing, in other words, was a full understanding of how to
set up your system to have layered product kits install correctly other
than in the root/usr/var main file systems. This might be in the
documentation that is part of the System Administration books, or it might
be missing. I'd have to check.

My question was :
> So I don't have enough place on the main disk (after installing
> V4.0D), I decide to install F77+f99+man on another disk.
> I load it with : setld -D /usr/local/fortran -l /mnt/dfa5...
> then lmf register etc...
> I add to the path /usr/local/fortran /usr/local/fortran/usr/bin
> etc.. but I cannot run f77. Do I miss something ??

Many thanks to all 3 samaritans..
