Hi,

Our network is managed by NIS.

I have setup the HP 4mv printer on DEC workstation 433 (Miata) named
hermes running DU4.0d. The printcap looks as follows:

# This is a Laser Jet 4MV printer
lj|lp1|4mv:\
        :af=/usr/adm/ljacct:\
        :ct=dev:\
        :if=/usr/lbin/ps_level2of:\
        :lf=/usr/adm/ljerr:\
        :lp=/dev/lp0:\
        :mc#20:\
        :mx#0:\
        :of=/usr/lbin/ps_level2of:\
        :pl#66:\
        :pw#80:\
        :rp:\
        :rs=false:sb:sh:\
        :sd=/usr/spool/lj:\
        :xf=/usr/lbin/xf:

I could take a printout with out any problem locally. But from remote
it is not possible.

printcap on a remote machine:
lj|lw4|ps4|postscript4|PostScript4:\
        :lp=:rm=hermes:rp=lj:sd=/usr/spool/lj:

When I print from the remote machine, I get the following message:
pluto{32}: lpq -Plj

pluto: waiting for hermes to come up
Rank Owner Job Files Total Size
1st sarah 30 /etc/passwd 462 bytes

hermes lpr.log shows the following entry:

Feb 2 15:42:11 hermes lpd[21236]: pid=21372 (sig=11,err=-1)

I had the similar printer setup on a sun machine and it worked wonderfully
with the present configuration from a remote machine. Now I must have
read the sys admin guide many times to understand it clearly. I even
added the host name pluto in .rhosts and /etc/hosts.lpd of hermes
which is where the printer is connected. I am unable to understand
where I go wrong. Your help will be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance..

- Sarah
