Thanks everybody for quick answers.

So the trick is : don't upgrade, but install 4.0d from scratch!!

Although the upgrade path I mentionned was correct, many recommended to
gather configuration of my server (ip address, hostname, conf files,
ADVFS/LSM configuration, kernel conf, anything relevant), install a
fresh 4.0d, and configure as before.

There is two problems with upgrade :
        - its very time consuming
        - root partition should be at least 128Mb for 4.0d, while its currently
64Mb on my server. Increasing root partition size is quite pain and
unsafe, because it involve a backup/ repartition / restore.

So, I will do the full install instead of upgrade. Gathering information
will take some time, but after if should be painless.
I you're in same situation, and decide to do the upgrade anyway, don't
forget to run verify on your ADVFS filesystems after upgrade to 4.0a,
but BEFORE to upgrade to 4.0d. You should do it single user mode. If you
forget this step, you may have corrupted filesystems after 4.0d upgrade.

Cheers
