Question about transfer rates on ESA10000s

We have an ESA10000, containing 4 and 9GB disks, attached to a 4100 running
DU4.0D with 2 cpus and 1GB of memory. We're having a problem with our
database server hanging, so I've been looking at iostat output. Given that the
disks are RZ1CBs or RZ1DBs, I looked up their data rates on the web, and
found a reference to 40MB/second - is that true? I'm seeing rates of
2-5MB/second in my iostat output, which seems high, but not if you consider
the 40MB limit - anyone have any opinions or info on this? Also, if new
disks are capable of 40MB/second, what happens when you get above 10MB/sec
and the field in iostat for "bps" is only 4 characters wide?

TIA.
