Thanks to Mark Ray for responding. He suggested that I check the print
drivers and
verify they are owned by bin bin. He was using ASU. This was not the
problem here
it was the groups, ownerships and a sticky bit that caused our problems.
The /var/spool/lpd
.seq, lock and status files had the incorrect ownership. The ownership
should be daemon not
root. We also had to change the group to bin from system for the lpr binary
and set a sticky
bit. Once we did all of this we took down the print daemons and stopped and
restarted the
lpd daemon. Everything is working fine now. It would be nice if the
software subsets came with
the correct ownerships to start with!
