Soft Errors

Forgive me if this has ben asked previously.

I received a mail message today, with the contents:

"The hard disk at channel 2, target 0 had 6 soft errors."

My questions:
- What is a "soft error"? To me, it sounds like either the disk was
perhaps busy when presented with a request to read/write data, or there was
some corruption on the disk which caused a fault reading/writing to that
location.

- Should I neccessarily be concerned? This is a standalone drive, so it
is causing me some concern already.

- If so, should the disk be replaced (not a big deal - I need a paperwight
anyway), or can it be salvaged?

Cheers!
Jon
