Hi,

My question was about installing/using a Jaz drive on DU4.0.

I was given a solution from Kevin Partin
(mailto:kevin.s.partin_at_boeing.com) who had included in his reply a gzip
tarred file with tools for manipulating the Jaz drive of 1 GB on DU4.0.
I don't know if it is a good idea to include that file on this summary
so I did not it. The reply of Kevin is included in the following lines:

----------
1. You will need a KZPBA-CA (UltraSCSI Single-ended adapter) that does not
have any internal devices attached to it. The Q-Logic KZPBA adapters do not
allow the use of both the internal and external connectors.

2. I have included a utility that I wrote for working with 1 GB Jaz drives.
I do not have access to a 2 GB drive to update it, but the same concepts
apply.

 <<jaz.tar.gz>>

The basic principle is to get a disklabel on the cartridge. Since the Jaz
drives are not totally SCSI compliant, a few tricks have to be done. What I
did was dd the first 1 MB off of a regular disk drive to the Jaz cartridge.
Once the cartridge has a disklabel, then I edited the disklabel and I could
manipulate it just like any other disk. The attached file includes a
disklabel for a 1 GB cartridge. You will have to modify it for the 2 GB
cartridge.

Good luck,

Kevin
