Account/usernames longer than 8 characters

Hi,

Does DU of any flavour support usernames longer than 8 characters?

I have just checked a system I have access to, and none of the account
names are longer than 8 characters.

I also checked Linux, and it is quite happy to accept the following:

  longuser123 and longuser1

and treats them as separate accounts.

So, what does DU do?
