Thanks to Paul Sand and John Speno, I learned something new about sendmail
today. As it turns out, the problem is that the aliases file on our
cluster is served via NIS from a system that's not part of the cluster. I
had forgotten all about this (I don't usually do this type of thing on our
cluster) until my manager reminded me of that fact when he returned to the
office from a meeting. Sure enough there was an entry is that "NISed"
aliases file which upon removing and issuing a make, fixed the problem.
