Has anyone taken time to write a robust custom patch installation script to
automate installing non-dupatch updates?
It should at least handle :
static lib files
dynamic lib files
normal executables
kernel .c files
kernel .h files
non-executable data files (dbm files, etc)
/sys/BINARY .mod files
Verify each step of installation
Log results
Be reversible
Optionally handle kernel rebuild and installation
Check run level if runlevel s is required
(No, I don't ask a lot...)
I don't expect it to automajically understand what files need what steps to
install. The patch kits coming out of Unix Engineering aren't the models of
consistency (or accuracy) that one would hope for.
I see a note in the archives from 1996 (Kurt _at_ UofAlaska), but nothing more
recent.
