Well I guess I was sleeping on the announcement of V5.0.
Thanks to Paolo Falcheo
Dr. Tom Blinn
Paul Kitwin
Matthias Dolder
Richard Tami
.... just to name a few
Here are a couple of the comments (minus the "you must have been
sleeping" comments)
This is what I heard from Paolo Falcheo:
Here is all I heard about:
- will ship in summer of 1999
- binary compatible with 4.0x
- new system and event management architecture (Web-based)
- enhanced PC client support
- better Internet Capabilities
- patch rollback
- hardware partitioning
- cluster filesystem with TruCluster v5.0 (this is great, I think)
This is what I received form Dr. Tom Blinn:
The planned release date is this summer. We here at Compaq's Tru64 UNIX
group
have NO expectation that most customers will move to V5.0 this year. In
fact,
we expect to be delivering additional V4.0x releases later this year
(both in
a few months, with V4.0F, and probably around the end of the year to
support a
new hardware platform), and to support the V4.0D release (on the
hardware that
it supports) at least through the end of the year 2000.
Thanks to all again on the speedy answer
