Hello Managers:

We are trying to add an additional 4mm tape drive (TLZ09) to our Alpha 1000
server. The server is running DU 4.0D with SP3 installed. A "TLZ07" tape
drive was originally installed. The problem we are encountering is creating
devices for both drives. I can create a device for either the TLZ07 or the
TLZ09 drive but not both. The steps I have performed when the drive was
added are as follows:

1) Configuring and installing in the server.

Apr 1 10:14:20 syd vmunix: scsi0 at psiop0 slot 0
Apr 1 10:14:20 syd vmunix: tz1 at scsi0 target 1 lun 0 (LID=0) (DEC
TLZ09 (C)DEC 0173)
Apr 1 10:14:20 syd vmunix: rz4 at scsi0 target 4 lun 0 (LID=1) (DEC
RRD45 (C) DEC 1645)
Apr 1 10:14:20 syd vmunix: tz5 at scsi0 target 5 lun 0 (LID=2) (DEC
TLZ07 (C)DEC 4BE0)

2) Rebuild the kernel with the following lines added to the config-file for
the new tape drive.

controller scsi0 at psiop0 slot 0
device tape tz1 at scsi0 drive 8
device disk rz4 at scsi0 drive 32
device tape tz5 at scsi0 drive 40

3) Reboot using the new kernel.

4) Removed all device special files relating to these drives "rm
/dev/*rmt*".

5) Create device special files for tz1 "./MAKEDEV tz1"

6) Use "mt status /dev/nrmt0h" to ensure that special files have been
created for the TLZ09 drive. They are there and point to the TLZ09 drive.

7) Created device special files for tz5 "./MAKEDEV tz5"

8) Use "mt status /dev/nrmt1h" to ensure that special files have been
created for the TLZ07 drive. They are there but point to the TLZ09 drive.

I repeated steps 4-8 reversing the creation of the tz1 and tz5 special
device files and the results are reversed. All special files point to the
TLZ07 drive.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,
Greg.
