Thanks to all who replied to me. Most of them suggesting me to
install Service Pack, check the svc.conf file, check for the DNS entry
for the host.
DNS entry for the host exists and no problem with the svc.conf file.
Iam yet to install the service pack ( may be i will not be able to do
it now, as the system will not be given for me for any changes to be
done ). I have managed to the solve the problem, may be a roundabout
way.
The users now ftp to the firewall and at the username prompt
of ftp they have to give "username_at_remotehost.domain".
The response now is normal.
