First of all, I would like to say thanks to the 5 people who quickly responded me.

The original question:
I have just replaced my DE435 EtherWORKS PCI (10base) with
DE500-BA Fast EtherWORKS PCI (10/100 base).
When I reboot the OS 4.0a, I saw a message saying that network is unreachable.

The most detailed reply from Gerhald Norte suggested me to type
boot -file genvmunix and doconfig (with no option), then move the new kernel to /vmunix.

As a matter of fact, the key issue was that DE500-BA does not work with 4.0a, and
works with 4.0d. This was mentioned in 4.0d installation manual, not in the DE500-BA manual!
So this is not a genvmunix issue, but OS compatibility issue. However, I carelessly unplugged the
card before updating the OS. So I could confirm that the above procedure works very well (^_^).

To summarize,
(1) to install a new hardware, boot -file genvmunix and doconfig (with no option),
then move the new kernel to /vmunix.
(2) to use DE500-BA, update OS to 4.0d . Don't forget update firmware.

I learned a lot and thanks again,

Kiyoshi
