Core, /proc & osf_boot

Dear All,
I can see my Alpha System (Alpha 4100, DU 4.0) create
a big /core file. How can I find out problem, I already
check /var/adm/syslog.dated but there is no syslog
for this kind of problem.

Aside this, Can I delete /osf_boot file?

What are the files at /proc directory? Can I delete
those too.
