running background job

Gurus,

This is a newbie question. I telnet into a box running DU4.0, I
start a job: ./job > /dev/null &
when I exit the shell, the job terminates. I tried it in Linux and the
background job persists even if I exit terminal.
How do I accomplish the same in DU?
