I have been trying to print to an HP LaserJet 8000 print server connected to
the network.
I checked it was possible to ping the printer - no problem. The printserver
was added to /etc/hosts.
I then configured a remote printer (lp2) using lprsetup ,
rm = "the print server name"
rp = "blank" (as there is not a queue name on the print server.)
When printing to this remote printer ( lpr -Plp2 /etc/printcap ) all I get
out is a banner page with the name of my host I am printing from and the
name of the file I am trying to print, but not the actual file.
If I type lpq -Plp2 , I get a message stating that there are no jobs waiting
to print, but there is also a reference to JetDirect which is the network
adapter in the printer, this would imply successful communication with the
print server.
Am I missing something really obvious ??
Regards
Kevin Jones
