Hello All,
Attempted to upgrade my Alpha2100 5/250 from DU 3.2c to 4.0D but was
partially successful. This is my first upgrade/installation (still new to
this) - although i did assist a couple of installations before...here are
the details..(bear with me it's lengthy);
I booted off the OS 4.0D cd from the console prompt and chose a Custom
Installation type, these were the following partitions;
Device name Partition File/sys Disk type Disk# Contlr Type
Contlr#
root re0 a UFS swxcr 0 pci
0
usr re0 g UFS swxcr 0 pci
0
var in /usr - - - -
- -
swp1 re0 b swxcr 0
pci 0
swp2 re1 g swxcr 0
pci 0
I chose the "Partition Disk" option and had the following selection;
re0 a 0-200 (MB not blocks)
re0 b 201-543
re0 g 544-10034
I realised that the above proportions may not be suitable but i didn't note
down a record of what it was like prior to partioning the disks...any lost
of data at this stage is not a problem..we have a full backup that we intend
to restore from at a later date.
I selected all the software subsets to be installed and chose the "Setup
Done" tab.
No error messages were displayed (this time) at this point as far as
overlapping partitions.
After the installation of the subsets and the kernel rebuild with the
following options;
2 6 9 10 12 13 18
i attempted to create a new domain with "mkfdmn /dev/re0a live1" and it
came up with the following error msg;
/dev/re0a or a overlapping partition is still open
Quitting......
mkfdmn; can't create new domain "live1"
Where do i go from here, i attempted this several times unsuccessfully.
Here are some additinal info which may help, the following is from the
"disklabel -r re0" command

I would really appreciate some guidance or am i way above my head here!!
The patch kit#3 has not yet been installed neither has the firmware been
upgraded to v5.3 , does that have any bearing on it..didn't think it would!!
Thankyou for your help.
