Thanks to all those who replied.
For HP networked printers the 'rp' parameter in /etc/printcap needs to be
set to either 'text' for ASCII printing or 'raw' for postscript printing.
Does anyone have any other recommendations for other non-HP networked
printers ?
Many of you suggested using telnet/TCPIP printing as this gives greater
control over the printer e.g. page layout, paper tray control etc.
