Has anyone tried to install SPSS on an AlphaServer? I recently received a
copy of SPSS 6.1 for Unix. The software came on a 4mm tape cartridge which
is useless to me since I do not have a 4mm tape drive. I called SPSS and
asked for the software on CD-ROM, but the best they could do is 8mm tape.
I have the 8mm SPSS tape, but now, when I try to untar the file off the
8mm tape (as per directions that came with SPSS), I get this:
# tar xvf /dev/nrmt0a install/spssinst.Z
blocksize = 0
tar: Ready for volume 2
tar: Type "go" when ready to proceed (or "q" to abort): go
tar: [offset 98]: Continuing
tar: Ready for volume 3
tar: Type "go" when ready to proceed (or "q" to abort): go
tar: [offset 98]: Continuing
tar: Ready for volume 4
tar: Type "go" when ready to proceed (or "q" to abort): go
tar: [offset 98]: Continuing
tar: Ready for volume 5
tar: Type "go" when ready to proceed (or "q" to abort):
and nothing seems to happen besides this unending series of prompts for an
additional volume. A call to SPSS's tech support did not help and I am
waiting for a return call from someone else at SPSS with regard to this
problem, but I was hoping that I could tap into your collective wisdome to
see if there's anyone who can suggest a solution to this problem.
