Thanks to all of you who responded - especially Richard Westlake, Anthony
Talltree and Randy Dees. There were a ton of good suggestions - ranging
from free to extremely expensive.
Here is the breakdown (with a reader's digest version of the high/lowlights.
Amanda (www.amanda.org). Freeware & is ported to most flavors of UNIX.
Supports a wide range of storage systems. NT backups can be done in
conjunction with Samba - but I'm presuming it can't backup the registries.
Arkeia (www.arkeia.com). Commercial software - but much cheaper. Seems
fully featured compared to Veritas or Legato. They charge about 30% of what
Legato wanted.
Other suggestions were AMASS software from adic (www.adic.com). This was
more geared to archiving solutions, but interesting. Backup Exec was
suggested (apparently they are coming out with a UNIX module soon). BRU2000
was mentioned - but doesn't support NT.
