In the Systems & Options catalog (
http://www.digital.com/info/SOC/)
pages on the 4100, it states that the KZPAC-CA and -CB do not
support the 18.2 Gig drives.
I have been using 18 Gig Seagates on a KZPSC three channel raid controller
with, as yet, no ill effects. When we originally got the KZPSCs, there
weren't 18 Gig drives to not support. So without knowing we should not
have, we later began to use them. I've experimented with pulling drives
and watching them rebuild and all has seemed ok. One does have to
keep the logical volumes below 32 Gig, but that is not terrible in
our application.
So, what are the reasons for the lack of 18 Gig support on the KZPACs?
Is the same lack of support there on the KZPSCs? What risks are there
associated with the non-supported configuration?
