They error message "ctape_strategy: READ case and density info not valid" has appeared in the console of this machine (255 Alpha) regularly in the past. Could this have anything to do with my problem below? Thanks again. Dan
Hello All. Bit of a problem with an upgrade from Digital Unix 4.0A to 4.0B on a 255 233Mhz Alpha Workstation. We have two old 130 versatec SCSI controllers attached to this machine. The controllers convert from SCSI to Versatec Parallel Interface. To send plots to our Xerox printers. After the firmware and updateinstallation the controllers no longer function. During the boot process they are initialized, and the response is "unable to open device rmt0h: Permission Denied" (they are devices rmt0h and rmt1h). The controllers appear as tape drives to the firmware and are present and appear fine. They display as mkb100.1.0.12.0 Mkb100 Tk50 and mkb200.2.0.12.0 Mkb200 Tk50. They are controlled via pkb0.7.0.12.0 pkb0 Scsi Bus id 7. The Kernel also has them listed (this includes the new kernal after update). We have six of these controllers and require them for all our large scale print operations, we also need ultimately to progress to 4.0D of Digital Unix. To enable printing I renamed the new kernel and used the old kernel, not a good situation for the alpha machine, but it's a live system and we need to print. Any ideas appreciated.
