My original question was:
I have an Alphastation 255/300 running DU 4.0A with a PCI ethernet card
(DE_450 - AUI port). The system works fine.
After the upgrade to DU 4.0D (and firmware upgrade to revision
6.9), the system shows problem with the ethernet card.
Boot message shows:
............
tu0: DECchip 21041
tu0 at pci0 slot 12
tu0: DEC TULIP Ethernet Interface,
_hardware address: 00-00-F8-30-DE-56
tu0: console mode: selecting AUI
_(10Base5) port
............
tu0: no SROM info for selected media.
............
............
The system go up fine, but is unable to connect to the network (it is
correctly configured !!).
The message "tu0: no SROM info for selected media" is continuously
repeated. The same message appears when booting from cd-rom.
Digital technical support said me that no problem are reported about.
There were numerous replies, thank you all!
I received many excellent ideas but at the end the problem was
the DE_450 card. My card was an old
revision (DECchip 21041-AA Rev. 1.1 ) that is not supported
on DU 4.0D (DEC Tech.support words !).
After the HW upgrade of a new DE_450 card
(DECchip 21041-AA Rev. 2.1 ) the system works fine !
