Bus renumbering after upgrade causes LSM failing

Recently I upgraded an Alpha system from 4.0D to 4.0E. Unfortunately the
upgrade renumbered the bus that contains the LSM rootdg disks so the
disks that's in the rootdg configuration now have ids not recognisable
to LSM (before: rz8 ..., now: rz0 ....). This causes vold not to start
properly thus rendering LSM unusable. The question: how to fix ??

(Yes, I know I should have had a mini LSM rootdg on a tiny partition on
the system disk, but this was before I got to know how to do things
right and I haven't had the time to redo)
