inetd needs portmap??

Hello all,

I'd like to turn off NFS/NIS on a 4.0d machine, as they are not needed.
However when i rename the NIS/NFS scripts in /sbin/rc3.d to keep
them from running at boot, any telnet/ftp connections will then hang.
A message will pop up on the console complaining about inetd not being
RPC registered (or something...you know the message).

I assume this is because portmap isn't running. Why does inetd even need
portmap?? When i turn portmap back on, everything runs fine. I've not
seen the behavior before on solaris or linux boxes. Any ideas?

Regards,
Ray
