Thanks to all of those who have suggested ideas so far....
1) I'm out of metadata extents.
This has been the most popular suggestion. And as far as I can
tell, I'm well within the limits.
root->/usr/.tags> showfile -x M-6 | grep extentCntxtentCnt
extentCnt: 683
Unfortunately, I've had very little experience when it comes to
things like this. I may be very wrong.
2) The quotas are hosed.
I did look into this, but forgot it in my origional message. Either
I'm not doing the commands right, or I don't have quotas set up
properly.
vquotacheck -a and quotacheck both just return the prompt. Specifying
the domain gives the following errors:
root->/usr/.tags> vquotacheck usr_domain
usr_domain not found or not properly enabled for quotas in /etc/fstab
root->/usr/.tags> vquotacheck usr_domain#usr
usr_domain#usr not found or not properly enabled for quotas in /etc/fstab
3) df stinks and gets confused.
This very well may be true, but doesn't help the situation very much.
I did verify that df is counting at least +/- 500k of what df -k shows
with numerous combinations of switches.
4) Defrag the filesystem as it may want to write something it can't
find contiguous space for.
Isn't that what verify does? I'm not aware of any other program
available to defrag the filesystem.
Thanks again to you all... especially as it looms even more that a vdump
is required. One thought on that. Is it possible to vdump to another
partition on the same machine? Or must it go to a tape device?
