error: ++ knbcb_alloc ++ failed

dear admins,

I get the err.-messg.: vmunix: ++ knbcb_alloc ++ failed on one of
my production-systems. The UNIX-Version is V4.0B. The System
is still up and running, but I am getting headaches if there is a
mayor problem comming up.

If any one can help what this message means and how to solve it
would be very welcome.
