Thanks to Wendy Fong for replying, but it still doesn't work. I have the
/dev/ttya01m on up to /dev/ttya07m set, and the only one that I can logon to as
root is /dev/ttya01m, the others don't work (I forgot to mention that
/dev/ttya01m worked from the beginning). All the other modems work, just not
with root.

I run uucpsetup. I then edit the line in inittab to read as follows:

digia01s:23:respawn:/usr/sbin/getty ttyd0 console vt100
Add to securettys:
/dev/ttyd0
then,
# init q
This works for me.
