Has anyone integrated a non-DEC NIS client into a network where the passwd
map is being served by a Digital Unix 4.0D server running in Enhanced
security mode?
Specifically, I'm wondering about a Network Appliance file server, which
contains an option for a shadow password implementaion, but it is
compatible with Solaris, and not neccessarily Digital Unix. We're using
currently using NIS to distribute the non-shadowed password information to
it so that PC clients can authenticate using Unix user names and passwords.
The NA's shadow scheme involves either a root-read-only file containing user
names and encrypted passwords, or a NIS passwd.adjunct map. Neither of
these appears in DU.
My management would like to implement DU C2 security for both its shadowed
password set up and the audit facilities, so I may need to work out some
sort of a system that is usable by both DEC and non-DEC NIS clients.
Thanks!
