changing password in a NIS env.

Greetings to all unixers!

I ve got a NIS master server in our network, with C2 enabled.
And the yp-related-process-list:
../ypbind ...
../rpc.yppasswdd ...
../ypserv ...
../ypxfrd ...
on DU4.0E.

Clients (although C2) can login as a NIS users into a workstation
using the NIS master server. Now something strange happens:

When trying to change the password on a client with #passwd
or #yppasswd an error occurs saying:
"Can't rewrite protected password entry for user ..."
?!?

But when I telnet into the NIS master server, and logon as a
NIS user, I do can change the password with #passwd without any
errors.

Does anybody has any clue for this theatre-show?

Have a nice day.
Frank
