The responses I received
* Try SWCC - unfortunately the capabilities of SWCC are somewhat
limited, there in no facility to monitor performance with SWCC (as far as I
know). From personal experience I find SWCC slow, cumbersome, not at all
cluster friendly and has quite a few bugs - unless it's been improved,
apologies for being negative about a product.
* Kurt Carlson suggested running dstat via HSZterm as the output is
more manageable than VTDPY, unfortunately dstat is completely undocumented.
He also pointed out that it is possible to get occurrences of caches working
against one another.
Unfortunately no-one gave any updates on the status of the dstatviewer so I
assume this is still an internal only utility. For those who haven't used
uaio it can be downloaded from :
ftp://raven.alaska.edu/pub/sois/uaio.tar.Z
as mentioned in my original question it is a vast improvement over the
standard iostat.
>From the responses it would appear that either all the HSZ users watch the
consoles regularly or have set up the HSZ's and just trust them to get on
with it.
Many Thanks
