kitcap & gentapes utility to file?

I would like to use the gentapes utility to create a kit, not on tape,
but rather as a file, which could be ftp'd.

Does anybody have experience doing this. I suspect that if it is
permissable then it may be as simple as having the appropriate syntax in
the /etc/kitcap file.

I am using the file as if I were generating a TK50 but putting it in
/tmp/PROD. This generates a checksum error on the verify pass.
