Dear Managers,
An attempt at a RIS installation has gotten rather tricky, and I would
like some help.
After setting up one of our machines as a RIS server, adding the
software and client (Digital UNIX 4.0e, and a DEC3000 500 respectively),
I proceeded to boot the client from the network.
I do manage to boot vmunix1, but I get the following messages at the
beginning of the installation procedure:
> INIT: SINGLE-USER MODE
>
>
> Initializing system for Digital Unix installation. Please wait...
>
> Cannot determine RIS home directory on $SERVER.
> Performing RIS installation from $SERVER...
> ....
I get to answer a few questions re installation type (custom),
root password, timezones and disk configuration, and then I get:
> ** Reviewing available software subsets. Please wait...
> ** Unable to get a list of software subsets avaliable for
> installation.

At which point, I cancel the installation, of course.
This problem has been replicated on two different RIS servers, of which
the first one has already been used for another RIS installation
(successfully), and we just installed RIS on the second server.
Both those servers run DU4.0e.
My /etc/exports is (created by RIS):
/ris/ris0.a/product_1 -root=0 -ro
/usr/var/adm/ris/ris0.alpha/kit -root=0 -ro
The client does exist in the server's /etc/hosts file, and both mountd
and joind are running on the RIS server.
I would really appreciate any ideas.
Thanks in advance.
