Dear Managers

Trying to solve this problem...

********************************************************************************************
URGENT:

The problem is intermittent, like it can happen when there are single user or many users.

Our config = 2GB RAM. Digital UNIX 4.0d.

we have some related IPC /VM/PROC kernel parameters parameters like this.

vm_maxvas=1GB --------------------------------------------should it be equal to Physical memory?
max-per-proc-data-size=1GB ----------------------------should it be equal to Physical memory?
max-per-proc-address=1GB-------------------------------should it be equal to Physical memory?
shmax=256MB which is our DB SGA size set by our DBA.
ssm_threshold=

we started getting the following error messages off-late.

"error message =ORA-07320: smsget: shmat error when trying to attach.sga". (it happens intermittently)Digital Unix error 12..not enough space..

***Cause: Failure to attach segment. This is possibly an operating
system error. Action: Examine errno. Sercose[0] returns segment ID. Verify that segment exists and that permissions are correct. "*****

the above said error was a accompanying error for a "ORA-01034 error
message"--- which indicates database can't be opened due to less segment
space or operating systemm variable pointing to that instance was
improperly defined"

got those info regarding error messages from oracle website..I am using Digital Unix (OSF 1) 4.0d. Your help will be highly appreciated.
Thanks a Lot.

when I check , I could see some discrepancies in Kernel parameters for vm_maxvas ,per-proc-address- space/max-per-proc-address-size is not equal to Physical Memory size and all set to default values 1GB.our system is running 2GB memory..

will Changing to a Higher Values i.e equal to Physical Memory help solve this problems..

Thanks in Advance for your help.
