setting a NIC transmit FIFO underflow manually ?

On reboot of our 4100 as it comes back into service these are
reported in /var/adm/messages

Jul 10 08:33:48 bogusfeet vmunix: tu0: transmit FIFO underflow: threshold
raised to: 256 bytes
Jul 10 11:35:11 bogusfeet vmunix: tu0: transmit FIFO underflow: threshold
raised to: 512 bytes
Jul 10 14:36:06 bogusfeet vmunix: tu0: transmit FIFO underflow: threshold
raised to: 1024 bytes

On each thershhold change we get telnet sessions left hanging in
the database application, sometimes resulting in rather a mess,
but generally just adding to our workload.

My question is ....

Can the transmit FIFO underflow threshold be set manually to 1024 bytes
on boot or very shortly thereafter ?

Any comments welcome.
