Thank you for your replies especially

which by parts lead me to the solution. My problem was that the nics where not connected to rest of the
net during configuration. Because I just wanted to set it up and test it, I used a address on the same subnet. Then the netsetup procedure put the default gateway onto the newly configured (not connected) nic -- (I don't know how to avoid this - if you want to setup special routes to share the net load to several nics, you may want several nics in the same subnet, but maybe not to have the default gateway on any arbitrary nic ) -- and the system hung during nis invoke.

Betreff: Second network card stop NIS working

Dear managers,

I´ve installed a second nic into a 1000 A server and also build it into the kernel. The server
works as a NIS master. The card is identified and working. When I use netsetup to
configure the second NIC everything is o.k. until the services are restarted. During
the NIS startup procedure ypserv is hanging and told me some problems with the portmapper (
through syslog: portmapper not responding seems to hung).

After deletion of the second configuration everything is working again.

System is 4.0d with jumbo patch.

Anyone a hint?

Rudi Gabler
