Has anyone noticed that almost all files in /etc have execute bits set in
"stock" 4.0D? I'm a bit puzzled and distressed by this. First, I have no
idea why execute bits are set on files that aren't normally executed
(/etc/group, for example). Second, if these bits are set in error (and
IMHO they are) are there any other places where these are set incorrectly?
I'm planning on removing execute permission from all files (not directories)
in /etc except those that are obviously scripts. Anyone know why this
wouldn't be a good idea?
Thanks for your comments!
